Support the Cancer Center
A world-class cancer center is rising at Kwaso, near Kumasi. Your gift helps finish it — and brings prevention, diagnosis, treatment, research and training under one roof for millions of people.
The project
The Center is a landmark healthcare development dedicated to transforming cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, research and training in Ghana and across Sub-Saharan Africa. It is being built at Kwaso, near Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, and is estimated at $100 million, to be completed in phases.
It is an initiative of Breast Care International — the organization BCI America was founded to support — in partnership with the Global Health Catalyst Summit in the United States and the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation.
Today the lack of a dedicated facility for cancer education, prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, training and research makes every one of those things harder. The Center is the answer to that gap: one place, built to international standards, close to the communities it serves.
Why it is urgent
Every year thousands of people are diagnosed — very often at a late stage, when treatment is hardest and costliest.
The most common cancers are breast, cervical, prostate, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, ovarian and colorectal — many of them survivable with early detection and proper care. What stands in the way is limited access to screening, diagnostics, specialized treatment centers and trained oncology professionals.
What your gift builds
A fully integrated facility where medical, surgical and radiation oncology, pathology, radiology, nursing, pharmacy and supportive care work as one team — so patients stop travelling between services at the worst moment of their lives.
Screening and diagnostic services close to the people who need them. Roughly seven in ten cancer deaths in Ghana follow a diagnosis that came too late — the same cancers are survivable when they are caught early.
A hub for clinical trials, operational research and collaboration with global partners, so treatment in Ghana keeps improving instead of standing still.
Education and capacity building in oncology and related fields — strengthening Ghana's health workforce and the cancer care systems of the wider region.
